When I asked him at the Blagden Alley meeting tonight, Jack Evans suggested that the emails he (and likely other CMs) has gotten in opposition to his "Neighborhood and Victims Rights Amendment Act of 2010" by far outweigh those submitted in support of his bill. Many of those opposition letters might be from those who do not live in crime ridden communities like ours; but they are nonetheless very vocal and engaged on influencing legislation that intends to benefit communities like ours. The deadline has passed to testify at the hearing in person, but emails can still be sent in for the record.

The CCCA is submitting a letter of support, but numbers matter on issues like this. If you're concerned about the muggings, shootings, drug sales, crime near Metro stations, and other public nuisances in the area, this would be the time to speak up if you support the Evans/Graham legislation.
