"The biggest 'Car Park' in Shaw"

The Fenty Administration announced today that it wants to bring the biggest "car park" in Shaw to the vacant lot near the Bundy School (429 O Street NW). This was a surprise maneuver that apparently even escaped the attention of Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans and his office staff until last week. Many local residents have noted that the District's Office of Property Management completely circumvented community hearings on this issue, and have announced this land transfer without following the process of bringing this issue before the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC2C02) for review much less engaging the support of the single member district Commissioner, Kevin Chapple (ANC 2C02). Several local residents and community leaders, including myself, have expressed that neighborhood needs and concerns have been completely cast aside for illogical reasons.

The announcement comes after the Friends of Bundy Park have been campaigning for a dog+people park on the site that the District government wants to create as a free private amenity in the form of a park for cars that will primarily or exclusively serve non residents.
