Variable Message Signs (VMS) for Nuclear Security Summit (NSS)

In preparation for expected vehicular traffic disturbances in advance of the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS), DDOT will be deploying "ten (10) portable Variable Message Signs (VMS). The VMS will be deployed along heavily traveled routes outside of the soft perimeter. DDOT Roadway Operations Patrol staff will place the VMS on Sunday. The ten (10) VMS deployed around the Convention Center will be programmed with the following message: 'ROAD CLOSED AHEAD' 'USE ALTERNATE ROUTE' In addition to the above VMS deployment, DDOT will activate all VMS on major routes entering and exiting the District notifying motorists of extensive road closures due to the event. The message for these outlying VMS would read the following: 'EVENTS DOWNTOWN' 'ROADS CLOSED' 'USE ALTERNATE ROUTE.'"
